Bear Lake, MI
"The Roost" at Fredrick's Cottages was our home away from home for two relaxing weeks. The one room micro-apartment is tucked up above Uncle Joe's music studio & garage. Uncle Joe is not only the manager of Fredrick's but a wickedly talented musician, and he knows his way around an outboard motor - he's also Tim's uncle. "The Roost" was a the perfect landing pad for us to gain inspiration & perspective while recharging our batteries. It had everything you would need for an extended stay - table, refrigerator, sink, closet, and of course a skylight in the bathroom. And we have Aunt Chris to thank for the beautiful & clean styling of "The Roost" as she made sure all the right touches were there - family photos of days past on the lake, board games, and fresh linens. A huge thank you to the entire Chimura family - I'm so grateful for your sharing of your beautiful lifestyle and homestead.
We went up at the end of the summer season, August 15 - 26 so the lake and shore was quiet as most vacationers were headed back reality and returning kiddos to school. Fredrick's sits right on Bear Lake, a small inland lake off of Michigan's Western shore just off the M-22 corridor. The mist would roll in and each evening as the temperature dropped and linger in the morning, we could feel fall creeping closer.
Set back off the road, we were cradled in our lofted forest oasis. Each morning I would walk out onto our little patio at the top the steps and wake up with the lapping of the waves on the shore. We planned our adventures here, returned from star gazing and sand-boarding the dunes. We enjoyed English muffins topped with sweet raspberry jam from "We Bee Jammin" *yum*. I slept so deeply and peaceful I teared up at the thought of leaving - but smiled knowing we'd be back. "The Roost" felt like home, if only for 2 weeks.
